The Beatles Live in Southport?
Here are two clips of The Beatles performing live. Both have been bandied about the internet for a few years now. Both have been "labelled" as being filmed in Southport.
The first one is actually dated 20-02-62 which isolates the clip as being filmed at the Floral Hall, Southport ... quite possible ... however, I've been in the Floral Hall on numerous occasions, albeit a little later than THIS performance, but the stage in this clip seems far too compact and the tinsel background doesn't seem to fit. The Floral Hall stage was huge by comparison AND much much higher from the audience (see photographs). If it IS from a Southport venue in 1962 I suppose it could be The Kingsway or The Marine Club (from personal experience). But, never having been in The Glenpark, Club Django, or one of the other smaller venues, I guess it could be one of those ... anyone put a "definite" on this one???
The second clip is a bit of a mixed lot ... however, the opening black and white footage (which is repeated at the end) does indeed look like it could well be the Floral Hall ... compare it to some of the photographs in the Photo Gallery. But this could be almost anywhere with a similar stage on this particular tour, but it DOES look right!
What follows the short black and white footage is a complete mystery. It's in colour (very unusual for this period) and it's obviously The Beatles fooling around backstage and in a Hotel/B&B somewhere. This again COULD be at a Southport venue, but your guess is as good as mine ... could be ANY backstage and ANY Hotel/B&B. I'd like to think it WAS all filmed in Southport, but who filmed it? Were The Beatles STAYING at a Southport Hotel/B&B, if so, which one???
